The circular economy is an economic model that keeps products and materials in use for as long as possible — through reuse, repair, remanufacturing and recycling — instead of the take-make-waste pattern of a linear economy. In Africa, it is a practical route to jobs, resource security and climate resilience.
Recycling is only the last resort of a circular economy. Circularity starts much earlier: designing waste out of products, keeping goods in use through repair, reuse and sharing, and returning materials safely into production. Recycling handles what remains after those higher-value loops.
Africa Circular is a pan-African non-profit network that connects governments, funders and institutions with verified African circular economy experts. We deliver national roadmaps, EPR schemes, market studies and pilots — and we document every project so the next country can move faster.
Africa Circular works across North, West, Central, East and Southern Africa, plus island countries. The active network connects experts and focal points in 54 countries, while the Country Explorer makes all 54 African countries discoverable. Documented projects include Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya, Rwanda, South Africa, Tunisia, Senegal, Benin, Zambia and Ethiopia.
