Nigeria is taking a significant step towards a sustainable future with the development of a Circular Economy Roadmap. This initiative, led by the ACEN Foundation (ACENF) in collaboration with the Switch2Green Facility, the European Delegation to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Adelphi, Living Prospects, and Trinomics, aims to guide the Federal Republic of Nigeria in transitioning to a circular economy.

The project focuses on providing technical assistance to the Federal Ministry of Environment in Nigeria to develop a comprehensive Circular Economy Roadmap. This roadmap will serve as a strategic guide for the country, outlining the necessary actions for implementing circular economy principles at both national and sub-national levels.

The bigger picture

Nigeria’s Circular Economy Roadmap was developed with support of experts funded via the EU SWITCH to Green Facility, working with the Federal Ministry of Environment, the European Delegation to Nigeria and ECOWAS, alongside Adelphi, Living Prospects, Trinomics and the ACEN Foundation, with backing from the Dutch government and the African Development Bank. Launched in 2023, it targets a transition to a circular economy by 2050, prioritising e-waste, plastics recycling and waste-to-energy.
